Using this site

You are welcome to use solar for your own purposes. By using it you accept these terms.

What this site is not

We provide general information about solar energy in the UK. We are not installers, engineers, electricians, surveyors, financial advisers or lawyers, and nothing here is professional advice about your specific property or circumstances.

Solar depends heavily on the particular building: its roof, its structure, its existing electrics, its planning status and the household using it. General information cannot substitute for a survey of your actual property by a qualified installer.

Decisions you take remain yours. We are not liable for losses arising from reliance on general information published here.

Accuracy

We take accuracy seriously and it is the main thing we are for. Every figure we publish carries a source and the date we last checked it, and our corrections are published publicly rather than made quietly.

Even so, the ground moves: rates change, schemes close, standards are amended. Always check the verification date on a page, and follow the source link where a decision turns on the figure.

Links to other sites

We link to primary sources — government departments, regulators, standards bodies, and the organisations that publish the underlying data. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content. A link is not an endorsement, and we receive nothing for any link on this site.

Text and original diagrams on this site are © solar.org.uk. You may quote from it with attribution and a link. You may not republish pages wholesale, or use our content to train a commercial product without permission.

Datasets we publish are released under their own licence, stated on the download page. Where we reuse public sector information, that is attributed on the page under the Open Government Licence.

Availability

We aim to keep the site available but do not guarantee it. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it.

Changes

Material changes to these terms are recorded in our changelog with a date.
