The short version

Nothing that could identify you is set until you choose. If you pick “Anonymous only”, or close the banner without choosing, Google Analytics is never loaded — the script is not requested at all, so there is nothing to opt out of later.

Essential

This is stored in your browser’s local storage rather than as a cookie. It contains your choice and the date you made it. It holds no identifier and cannot be used to recognise you across sites or sessions.

Analytics — only with your consent

We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site — which pages get read, which get abandoned, and which search terms bring people here. Google Analytics does not store your IP address, but uses it briefly to estimate your approximate location.

We have disabled Google’s advertising features, ads data sharing and Google Signals on our property, and we do not link it to any advertising account.

Advertising and social media

None. We carry no advertising, no embedded social media widgets and no tracking pixels. There is nothing in this category to switch off.

Changing your mind

Use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page. You can also clear your browser’s site data for solar.org.uk, which removes your recorded choice and makes the banner appear again.
