Accessibility statement

Our commitment

This site is for everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or speech recognition. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA.

How the site is built

• Semantic HTML with a single main landmark and a skip-to-content link
• Every page usable by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator
• Colour contrast checked against WCAG AA, and colour never used as the only way of conveying meaning
• Real tables with proper headers, rather than layouts pretending to be tables
• Text that reflows and remains readable at 200% zoom and on small screens
• No animation that cannot be disabled, and reduced-motion preferences respected
• No modal interruptions, exit-intent popups, chat widgets or sticky adverts
• No CAPTCHA on any form — spam is handled by methods that do not put a puzzle between you and getting in touch

Known limitations

Site search requires JavaScript. Search runs entirely in your browser, which is what keeps your queries private, but it means it cannot work with JavaScript disabled. The A–Z index lists every page on the site and needs no JavaScript.

Calculators require JavaScript. For the same reason: they run locally rather than sending your figures to a server. Where a calculator exists we also publish the method behind it, so the result can be worked through by hand.

Data tables can be wide. Some tariff and specification tables are wider than a phone screen and scroll horizontally. We are working on better small-screen presentations for these.

Telling us about a problem

If you find something you cannot use, please tell us what you were trying to do, the page you were on, and the software you were using. Accessibility problems go to the front of the queue.

Contact us — choose General enquiry and say it is an accessibility problem. We aim to respond within five working days.

If the form itself is what you cannot use, that is the most important bug on this page and we want to know. Tell us however you can reach us and we will fix the form first.
